History

Our family business can look back on more than 200 years of history. From a brewery founded in Bitburg/Eifel, a medium-sized group of companies has grown which is active in the core business of beer and other business fields.

Johann Peter Wallenborn, 1817


What began in 1817 with the local brewery built by Johann Peter Wallenborn has developed over the decades into one of the most important private breweries in Germany - the Bitburger Brewery. The Bitburger Brewery Group was formed through the acquisition of traditional beer brands (König Pilsener, Köstritzer, Wernesgrüner and Licher) and efficient beverage wholesalers.

1998

In 1998, today's Bitburger Holding was founded as the holding company of the group, whose mission is the further development of the group structure and the search for entrepreneurial participations outside the traditional core business.

2010

At the beginning of 2010, the holding acquired the children's clothing manufacturer Sterntaler.

2011

The holding company has owned a stake in Dürr Dental AG since 2011.

2016

In 2016, Bitburger Holding took over the Wuppertal-based tool specialist Wera and acquired a stake in the POLI-TAPE Group in Remagen.

2018

Bitburger Ventures GmbH was founded in 2018.

2019

In 2019, Bitburger Holding acquired a stake in the tent specialist HTS tentiQ based in Kefenrode, as well as in Avista Oil, a waste oil treatment plant based in Uetze.

2023

Together with German family offices Bitburger Holding acquired a minority stake in Schülke & Mayr GmbH

2024

The POLI-TAPE investment was sold to the Fedrigoni Group in 2024.
